2018 brings a fresh start for Animal Confession. After working hard for the last 18 months on their follow up LP to "Bright Light, Dark Eyes" (2012), the band is finally set to release their first single in over 5 years. Lead vocalist and guitarist Andrew Gharib muses that waiting so long between releases requires the band to somewhat start from scratch: "We're well aware how long it's been, juggling families, jobs and other commitments made the completion of this record just that much sweeter." Indeed - 5 years is a long time, enough to raise babies into toddlers, get a university degree, or for some, write an album. Their forthcoming release "Age Of Today" is a record of observations. It's an observation of our current society, the people that make it up, and where we are headed. Themes like addiction to technology and privacy are rammed head on the opening track "Everyone is Watching" - "Everyone is watching you, everyone is talking too. Better watch your back before they come for you" is a warning to keep and protect your information from would-be wrong doers. With local producer Steve Foley, the band wrote 25 songs and slowly developed them down into 11 compact but hard hitting hard rock songs. The band was driven not only to write great hooks, but keep their signature atmospheric layering intact while getting in touch with their punk rock roots. "I grew up on post punk music and I hold it near and dear" says Gharib. "Bands like U2, Joy Division, The Cure, and even Depeche Mode had and continue to have a huge impact on me." When he, drummer Trevor Grey and bassist Patrick Quesnel came together to make this record, all of their influences were blended together. "You'll hear punk rock, hard rock, pop, and metal on this record" says Gharib. While their influences have a wide range, they realized a singular vision to make heavy music fun.
The band is set to release their first single "Ritual" everywhere music is consumed on February 9, 2018 with the forthcoming album to be released on April 13, 2018.
